Simon removed the orchid bark substrate that George had when he came home because it was minging and well stinky.
Instead of buying new orchid bark, I'm thinking of using the sterilised soil that is available at garden centres...
Any objections, or do you advise against this? I don't like the normal wood based substrates, orchid bark isn't too bad, but I'd rather use something different.
I'm thinking that sterile soil would be ideal to keep humidity pre-shed (George's sheds are always really bad and messy) and it would be good for him to bury himself in it if he should choose etc.
Obviously if there is/are reason/s why I shouldn't use it, then I'd be very grateful if you guys could advise accordingly?
Thanks
Carol
