this is what i sent to my local MEP'S and to the ukip political party, im not the best at these things but it gets the piont across. feel free to copy this an change it abit if you want.
dear sir's i am contacting you requesting your help an assistance regarding the EU's upcoming directives concerning reptile and exotic pet keeping, breeding and import/export. please could you take a few minutes to read through the information in this link. http://www.fbh.org.uk/news/1209_euark_sumnmit.html as you have hopefully read on the FBH's website that the reptile community and the people that fight against the extremist animal rights groups ect were not consoulted on the matter untill an american forum member informed the FBH officials at the last minute. if the EU implenent a "white list" of animals it will be extremly damaging to the uk's large reptile industry and cause a very large number of people who work in the industry to be put out of work if there was a blanket ban on keeping these animals and it could cause millinons of animals to be removed an killed for no reason. while i and most people in the reptile community understand there needs to be something done regarding invasive alien species a blanket ban is not the way forward instead any species that could become invasive to a certain climate/ecosystem of which there are very few that would survive the uk's winter should be microchipped and a record kept of who the legal owner is similar to the CITES issue with some rare species of boa constrictor. i know a lot of people dont like reptiles and think they are weird or are scared of them yet a few years ago a study in the uk showed that of 6million dog/cat ownere there were 8.5million+ people who keep reptiles. im not sure what your thoughts are on reptiles/amphibians but the reptile community shows just as much love an care for our reptiles as people who keep cats, dogs ect perhaps more as the specialits equipment and vets fee's if needed cost more that it would for a cat or other animal. if theres anything you can do to help us then please do and help stop the possible death of millions of very loved family pets and help stop the EU controlling what we are allowed to to do in our great country. thank you for taking you time to read this yours sincerly and thank you in advance chris challice
