Been out shopping for a rad for my man cave today so i don't have to have the whole house sweating and complaining, ended up buying a 2.5kw oil filled radiator from B&Q for £80 was looking at getting a delonghi dragon with the digital thermostat for £140ish until i saw this its there own brand and still has the digital controls for nearly half the price. Was just wondering what any of you that use the oil filled rads electricity usage was like after using one as from what i worked out going off currys chart its going to be a whopping £40 extra per week on my bill is this correct or do they tend to settle and not use as much once room is up to temp?

Holy crap. I was thinking of getting one but don't think il bother lol

Think im gonna use a box room for the snakes and the heat generated from the mats should keep the ambient temp up

Wish i had a small box room/large cupboard to use this things gonna cost a fortune lol think id be better off going to B&Q and buy a shed to put in the snake room instead and insulate that probably work out cheaper lol the things we do for our critters

I thought it might cost a bit using one maybe a tenner a week or somewhere in that region but not 40 :-0 guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay the price over winter as i can't think of any other way, only other thing i can do is buy some full length thermal curtains in the hope it keeps most the heat in and use a lamp on timer to create daylight hours, im open to suggestions i live in rented property so can't really start pulling floor boards up to put under floor insulation in and the landlord won't even let us get cavity wall insulated even though its free :-(

smeg thats a lot to run one. i feel your pain, we live in a poorly insulated house with no central heating. i was thinking of using an oil filled rad in the future when i have a rub rack to raise the temps in the winter but i may have to re think my future plans if they cost that much to run. the vivs in the bedroom keep it fairly warm if the door is shut so might moniter room temps over winter to see what they are b4 making a decision on the rack

I will update tomorrow to see if it settles and I've reduced the power so its not on full anymore, its heating a fair sized room up so it might not be as bad in smaller rooms mines about 12ft square with high ceiling and room temp is around 27 degree at the minute nice and toasty

If the room is suitably insulated once its up to temperature it will be using far less electricity than when its running at full pelt below the temperature set on the stat (same for vivs too). If the room is poorly insulated it will be losing heat left right and centre and you'll spend a fortune throwing heat out into the garden.

Just to update and for the ones thinking of using an oil filled rad the temp has settled around 25-6 degrees in my snake room and the rad is coping with this on low power in a large room fairly well i checked the meter this morning at 10am and just now and its used £1.20 so not too bad and just a little more than i was expecting

That's £1.20 in how many hours? And at low power?
Probably cheaper than the gas bill though lol

That's not too bad, but when the heating goes on, electricity usage should reduce as well...or I suppose that's the theory
