Hi all! I know that a number of you keep other herps as well, so I'm asking for your input. I'd like another type of snake for a display tank and some variety. I'm considering a Dumerils Boa because of their docile nature and handleable size. I'm completely open to other suggestions, keeping in mind that I don't want something bitey and unhandleable, or something that grows over 6 or 7 feet. Thank you in advance :) |

If its gotta be a fairly docile boa, why not look at a Brazilian rainbow boa?
If you can find one, the hypo strain look amazing |

or you could looks at smaller carpet pythons, childrens pythons or bull/pine/gopher snakes plus theres lots of other colubrids

I'd second Chris' comments. Can't go wrong with a common boa for lovely nature. Although for more of a display snake the carpet will be seen moving more than the boa. I love the look of the rainbows but have never handled one. |

Western hognose FTW they are loads of fun but are very small and extremely unlikely to get bitten by one |

Close, I was putting him in his feeding tub and didn't notice Jane waggling the mouse about before I'd finished getting him in. (deliberately, I'm sure) lol. |

Fezzes, I thought BRBs were bitey? They are fairly easy to find here. No Dumerils fans? |

you could go for a GREEN TREE PYTHON, I have heard these rarely bite (lol joke) But seriously I would go for a royal morph but that is just me. If not then I am +1 on the Hognose (as long as it is Albino, they look much better) ;) |

All baby boas have a higher tendency to nip but most ig not all will tame down nicely very quickly. I will sing the praises for A slightly larger dwarf Boa, the Hogg Island Boa. Colour changing snake, that pretty cool, and they are pretty too. They have a reputation for being a bit nippy which is slightly true but not anything you can't handle when they are little and they grow out of when they are bigger. |
