Hi all,

I'm planning on putting a ceramic in our viv as the source of heat and just having natural daylight during the day. I noticed that some of you mentioned having LED's for displaying which would be great for watching him/her during the evening.

Where can I get hold of some LED's and is there anything I should be aware of such as UV radiation etc ?

Many Thanks!

LED's are generally for day time lighting. With royals being nocturnal, they prefer no lights at night time

If your like to see your royal after dark, you can get an infra red bulb. It will provide enough light for you to see but in a spectrum of light that the snakes can't

Do infra red bulbs give off heat? I'm just concerned about inadvertently making the viv too hot by introducing another heat source...

Yes, they do

You could use a two bulb set up, ceramic in the day IR at night. Bit of a ball ache though!

I think I may have found the solution! Swell reptiles have a moonlight LED for night viewing that casts a very weak blue light that mimics moonlight so it won't disturb your snake and gives off no heat!

I have a moonlight led and it works ok - when it decides to stay stuck to the wall of the viv! More often than not, it falls off. Still works, though, and cheap as chips. The blue light gives a nice colour, too I bought some velcro sticky dots to try to get it to stick better as the suction cups were hopeless, but still not having a lot of luck, so I just leave it resting where it wants to sit.

This is the one I have: http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/arcadia-vivarium-moonlight-led-system.html

Can't remember if I bought it from SPS or elsewhere, my memory is shocking

Yeah, I'd recomend those moon light too, they do look really good. I never got round to getting some for Tig's viv, but my mam has them for her Toads for the night and I love how they look. The light isn't strong, but is plenty for you to see your pets. Doesn't seem to disturb them either.
