I finally got close enough to take a picture of our resident snake. He lives somewhere in our side bushes. I live in Northeast Florida. Man, he has gotten much bigger now! I thought for the longest time he was a racer snake but upon closer inspection, he has those reddish side flares that I'm thinking he's probably an indigo. I don't know. Can anybody help me identify this guy?

Sorry for the blurry photo. He was on the move and I only had a cellphone camera:

Sounds like an Eastern Indigo from what I've read.

Just found this website:
http://myfwc.com/WILDLIFEHABITATS/SpeciesInfo_EasternIndigoSnake_map.htm

It's endangered/protected too. You can join the "We've got a protected reptile species living in our Garden/Backyard" club on here now I've got Slow worms living in mine.

Okay, it's official...
It is a Southern Banded Water Snake (Nerodia Fasciata). Non-venomous. So, she gets to stay in our backyard. Her hide is somewhere in the side of the house. She's been eating the koi in our fish pond, so I'll have to put some screen cover there.

She's now a resident pet!
