I'm not well educated in royal python morphs but I've looked at some info about hets and that they may have a morph gene in them but they look normal.
My question is, if you didn't have any background information about a royal (like if it had a parent who was a morph) how would you know if it carried a het gene or not? Would you have to wait till you bred it and see if you get any morphs.. but then not know if it was the male or female that had the het gene? I may have got it completely wrong, but it's all very confusing to me!
Thanks in advance everyone :)

If you don't have any background information on a snake then you won't know and chances are you won't find out because it doesn't just produce morphs when bred it will have to be bred to another snake with has the morph that it is het for.
For instance if your snake is Het Albino but you didn't know then it will look normal.
If you breed it to another normal it will produce normal looking snakes.
If you breed it to another morph it will produce that other morph's looking snakes.
It will never produce albino until you eventually by chance breed it to another snake that has albino :)

To be honest you're very very unlikely to have a het, breeders know what produces het's so they are sold at higher prices, if you paid base price you probably have a normal :)

I was given a royal by a friend who couldn't look after it anymore, and he got it from another friend. All I know is that it's male (the previous owner thought it was female until I sexed it!) and is 8 years old.
I also got my boyfriend a royal from a rescue center near where I live so obviously we have no background information with her. She's about 1 or 2 years old I would guess and has very bright yellow colouring (at first I thought she was a YB but now we just assume she's a normal as well).

Chances are they're both normals but you never know. Hets are normally kept track of pretty well.

With what you've said, chances I'll ever find out if they are het or not are extremely slim hahaha :) I don't want to get too confused with the genetics of it all! Thanks for your help anyway Kelfezond :)
