Hi guys, my royal has been making noises which dissimilar to wheezing. Its not constant but more like a dog, when dogs are smelling then let out a gust of air, well its like that, if that makes sense

There is no mucus, but he has been very docile and lazy, more so than usual.

Any ideas? His temps are fine etc

if he is going into shed they sometimes make a strange noise where the skin is tight on their nostrils an if hes being a but quiet id guess he could be coming up to a shed.
or if hes just shed they can sometimes make the same wheezy noise for a couple of days

Hiya, I'm new to snake keeping and could use advice please. I got my first snake on Friday Oscar an 18mth Royal. He was ok Fri evening exploring his viv, went in water dish Fri night fully submerged and has stayed there since. temp is 32c, humidity was 40%. yest (Sunday ) he went into Blue so I've upped humidity to 58-60%. Tonight when his viv light went off he lifted his head and rubbed his nose on the side of the viv wall. I opened door to mist before bed and he made a funny squeak type sound. I shut door and observed - he rubbed his nose again (scales have been bubbling up for 2 days ready to shed) and he squeaked again. Kinda like the noises dolphins and whales make.

Is this normal?

He has a hide but hasn't used it, before blue he did bask on slate under heat lamp and he has plenty of branches to club on, around and through plus a water dish at hot end and water dish that he's bathing in at cool end. pals who have snakes have checked my set up and said its better than theirs. I just want him to be ok.

In short no it's not normal but no it's not uncommon. With most health risks the best thing to do is wait until they've finished shedding and see if the problems carry on - alot of noises can be caused by loose skin around places air is exhaled. Submerging is normal for snakes that are shedding so don't read too much into it.

My advice: Wait and see how he is after a shed.

Aah ok, ta. He had his head completely under water at one point and was blowing bubbles through the water.

He hasn't got any mucus or skanky stuff round mouth or nose but skin is really bubbled up

So, after reading up bait more on viva humidity etc I realised I'd made a real newbie error ( to be expected ) I'd put the humidity sensor in wrong place. Eek. I'd got humidity reading of 60% when in actual fact it was running at 85% but only for a day. I opened door and let some air through, wiped doors and am now maintaining 75% which Oscar seems happy with. He's even ventured out his dish for a while. Phew
