I have my Royal in a 3ft viv and its being heated by a heat mat and a red 60w reflector bulb both connected to a dimmer switch. I was wondering if I need the heat mat aswell as the bulb?

I have attached a link to a quick drawing of my viv setup (I have added more foliage and hides to it since)

Could just get a higher wattage bulb then you wouldn't need the mat plus the bulb wouldn't have to work as hard to get to temperature so will last longer

Ditch the heat mat, get a minimum of 100watt bulb i use 150 in my 3ft viv use on a dimmer stat if using ir bulbs. Also don't really need damp hide the whole time only really need to use a damp hide when in shed. Other than that looks good from the drawing you have done

yes he will be fine, a ceramic or IR bulb will heat him much better an will raise the ambient temps in the viv

Is an IR or ceramic the same/similar to a red reflector bulb that I currently have?

It's a wooden viv. I'm going to buy a pro-rep 100w red night spotlamp from pets at home today to replace the 60w bulb I have. I have removed the heat mat as recommended but now cool end seems bit too cool... It's reading between 68f and 70f. Hopefully the 100w bulb will help with ambient temps?

Once you get your bigger bulb would be fine try and get a 150w if you can, would of been ok to keep heat mat in until you got your correct bulb.

I did look for a 150w but nowhere near me does them. Will buy the 100w and maybe order a 150w online. Also, I'm guessin the bulb holder will be fine and won't melt with such a high wattage bulb? It's just a normalhousehold bulb fitting.

no a normal house hold fitting will be no good, you need to get a ceramic bulb holder as this can with stand the heat output of these bulbs, you should be able to get all these items at a decent reptile shop.
