Pandora has shed but the lower third of her body has been retained. When she went blue I added a moist hide to her rub and popped a damp flannel on her warm hide for extra humidity. After she shed, last night, I removed the few bits of ragged shed from her rub and left all the humidity aids in place. This evening I gave her a tepid bath and ran her through a damp flannel but the retained shed is still firmly stuck. I've left her in her rub with the humidity aids still in place. It's my intention to leave her for a couple of days to see if my simple methods work. On the odd occasion that I've had any retained shed with my corns this has always worked, but I'm new to Royals so I'd really appreciate any tips you could give me for Pandora. She's such a good girl I don't want to upset her if I can help it! All suggestions welcome........ |

Oh dear :( What we do if we get a bad shed is Get a Luke warm flannel and start from where the shed is and rub gently if you have caught it soon enought It should start to peel with easy
What I tend to do when royals go into shed is As soon as I see them go pink up the humidity With spraying the tub morning and night I think the sooner you see them going into shed And raise the humidity the better they will shed
I personal ain't have a bad shed for months and months raising the humidity As soon as I see there bellys go pink I Spray with a water bottle morning and night
I don't know if putting a humidity hide will help if shed on a heat mat in a tub Maybe someone else can input on that
Hope you get the shed off soon ;)

Royals can be a right pain in the bum when it come to shedding like my males first shed with me I upped the humidity with flannel on his hide and he left all his head on then last week I thought he was just starting to go pink so was gonna up the himidity after I got home from work but when I got in he had shed perfectly in one piece. So I must of missed him when he was blue and he managed to shed with just normal humidity, totally random snakes lol |

Update: Did my normal snake checks this morning and found the retained shed under a hide and a beautifully clean, fresh Pandora. Now I know my methods work for royals as well as corns. |

I had this same problem on Cuthberts first and only shed with me so far, I ended up peeling it off for him. It's great that she got it off herself in the end |

Put some mild baby lotion on your hands (just a few drops) and rub it in then grab snakey and her have a wander through your hands for a few mins, it helps to moisturize the skin and then later in the day get a damp towel and gently grab her, she will wriggle through the towel and the skin should come off :) Only had a royal once who had a very bad shed and this trick worked very well. I also read that bathing a snake will remove the natural oils the skin produces, thus increasing the chance of a bad shed, so might be worth thinkin about :) |
