A friend has a snake for sale and tomorrow I'm going to look at him. He's a 6.5 ft red tailed boa.
And the price he's said is £200 including viv etc. what do you think? What are boas like?
He's great to handle. Good with kids etc apparently. I'm so excited to see him.
It's a very tight budget but I'm very tempted to not eat to buy him. |

boas are awesome but are strong snake an can get fairly big. for £200 with the setup im guessing it is just a common boa (Boa constrictor imperator - BCI) as people still try to sell them as red tails or shops miss label them.
for a true red tail (Boa constrictor constrictor - BCC) you would be looking at around £200 for just the snake.
dont get me wrong common boas are still awesome snakes their just slightly smaller an different markings to the true red tails an nowhere near as expensive
£200 for an adult an setup doesnt seem too bad depending on the viv size/quality a what comes with it, i would try an haggle the price down a bit but if you like the snake then its worth whatever you pay for it |

I spoke to the owner n it's a true boa. He's just in desperate need to sell them. As he's lost interest and now got kids or something
Just in case though how do you tell the difference? Thanks for the reply. |

Boa Constrictors are Seriously strong snakes, over the 6 foot mark you are looking at a snake that can easily get the better of you, not saying its going to kill you and eat you because that just wont happen but if it wants to do something you simply wont be strong enough to stop it on your own.
Go have a handle of it, see how you feel with it. Also is it definitely a boy snake, as a girl snake Boa will get huge.
You can check Kelfezond's videos out, he has 2 Boas, a big one and a huge one. http://www.youtube.com/user/Kelfezond/videos?view=0&flow=grid
PS I love Boas, they are totally awesome snakes, pretty much my personal favourites. I only had room available for a big Dwarf Boa but you will fall in love with this one I'm sure and £200 will be a worthwhile expenditure. |

Make sure you think carefully over this going from a royal to a 6ft boa is one massive jump in snake keeping, I got my boa when she was 2 years old so was not that big, still much bigger and 10 times more powerfully than my royal. She is now 8.5ft and weighs around 11kgs and is so powerfully it takes two of us to get her out the viv if she does not want to come out. Something for you to consider for a few years time. Saying all that not trying to put you off they are beautiful snakes and very calm if handled regulary. |
