Hey, I need a little help, the ceramic bulb in my Royal's viv went sometime during the day, I've just got back and his viv is absolutely freezing, stupidly I don't have a spare (I'll soon change that) I'm currently warming him in my hands, but what on earth can do 'till tomorrow morning? |

get some hot water bottles/plastic bottles fill them with warm water an stick them in the viv, could also wrap them in a towel to keep them from going cold to fast.
also turn your heating up an wrap the viv in blankets/quilts |

Nothing is the short answer. Just let his body temperature drop and get a new bulb ASAP, stick the central heating on or if you dont have that then a room heater, just to take the chill out of the air. When they drop cold they slow right down but short term it is unlikely to do any harm. If he has recently fed there is a chance he will regurgitate the meal but cross that bridge is you come to it. |

If you've got the bulb on a dimming stat you could just use a normal household bulb for now if you've got a guard. |

Chrisc, great idea I may give that a go if I can find a hot water bottle in this ridiculous house of mine.
Lotabob, seriousuly? He'll be okay 'till the morning? luckily he's not due to be fed 'till tomorrow so the food is long gone.
Herriotfan, what's a dimming stat? Sorry if that sounds a stupid question but I've never heard that term before. |

Yeah absolutely serious,Its not an ideal situation but if its not just eaten a drop in body temp overnight will do no harm at all (it used to be common practice to switch off the heat overnight). You can do things to help keep the residual heat in, wrap a duvet round the vivarium but its all going to eventually end in a cold vivarium by morning.
A dimming stat is a dimming thermostat, it is a thermostat that can run light emitting bulbs as well as ceramics. Pulse Thermostats can't run a light emitting bulb as they will flash it like a cheap disco. |

Woah, for what reason? Also how often?
Ah yeah, I thought it was something like that but I weren't sure, the two types are dimming and pulse ones aren't they? I think I've got a pulse one.
