both my boa and burm caught mites from a reptile boarding place when I was away last year, the treatment I used which worked perfectly was as follows, bathed the snakes in warm water with a few drops of olive oil, this drowned the mites which were on the snake, however you will still need to treat the snake I used front line spray which I was given from the vet. strip the viv out completly and spray the whole viv leave to dry for at least 30mins with the door open, to release the fumes, then use cotton wool pads spray the front line onto the pad and wipe all over the snake, again leave the snake out for at least 30mins to dry. the life cycle of these critters is very quick so its is very important you spray the viv as they can lie dormant for a while, plus lay eggs, also they can walk quite a way up to 55 ft an hour so if you have any other reptiles near the infected snake it may be worth treating him/her with front line to be on the safe side.
repeat this process again after one month this should be enough to sort out the problem. whilst treating keep the snake on newspaper or kitchen towel.

My treatment for mites is clean hoover an scrub the viv/rub then spray with ardap or callingtons, leave for 24hrs then air it out for 4-5hrs.
For the snake i cover them in olive oil an leave in a tub overnight while the viv is drying/airing then put them back on newspaper.

I will not put any chemical directly onto a snake not even callingtons, have read a few horror stories of snakes dying/being poisoned so not worth the risk

Hi there, same for royals I know it's annoying gutting your viv but it's worth doing , the eggs and mites hide away in warm corners so make sure you get it all.

We tried mite off, with no success. We did get rid of then with two applications of front line. If this hadn't worked we were going to go with the hypoaspis mites.
