Well, the stuff finally arrived yesterday so we decided to set up immediately.
We chucked out his old wooden log hide as it was way to small for him:
I think he likes it! 
I know it looks like he's not in there, but he is!
He's at the back corner in the shade, snoozing! 
The temp is 26.4 degrees Celsius so it's not too hot for him...  |

| Looks good. Only thing ill say is bulb guard. Bulb guard! Bulb gaurd! Bulb gaurd!! Unless there's already one on there and I just can't see it! The last thing you want is for him to go exploring his lovely new viv and coil around it and then receive what could potentially be fatal burns |

| agree with above, i would personally leave it off until you get a guard that is a recipe for disaster. as mentioned to you in the week probably would of got a red heat light. you may find that is far to bright for your royal., as they don't generally need lighting in their vivs, also is that bulb holder ceramic, looks plastic to me, may want to change that as well, could melt if it gets to hot |

Perfect foliage setup, Royals love all that stuff to hide under.
If you are using light emitting bulbs the plastic bulb holder is fine, it wont ever get enough to be an issue. Ceramic holders are for ceramic bulbs which as the lack of finger prints on my right hand and the big ring burn in my carpet can vouch for, they get seriously hot.
As you are getting the bulb guard on Monday I would turn the heating up in your house so you get an ambient temp of over 20oC in the vivarium and then switch off and remove the bulb as the bulb even when cold poses a squeeze until it smashes risk.
All in all though, great setup, Captain Cuddles will love it. He may go off food while he settles in but that is not unusual for a Royal. |

The holder is plastic, the bulb emits light but we are ordering the reds bulb ASAP.
It's 26.9oC temp in there so I think that's fine. When the bulb went kaput the temp dropped to 18.4oC.
OFF his food?? If anything it's made him keener lol :) |

Red bulbs emit light too. Light emitting bulbs refer to any that aren't ceramic bulbs. Its only ceramic bulbs that need a ceramic holder, plastic is fine for what you are using it for.
Is 26.9oC your ambient temperature? What is the temperature directly under the bulb? It should be around 32-33oC but definitely not hotter than 35oC.
If he is still eating then its doing the trick but until the bulb is guarded the bulb should be switched off and removed and while there is no heating you shouldn't feed him. It wont do any harm to have the heat off until Monday. |

Looks good,Do what the others said and replace the bulb with a red one.Take it you have the right stat etc?
Like above,it can't be 26c right under that bulb,that close to the ground. |

I have no idea what the temp is directly under the bulb, how do I find out? He tends not to go near the bulb so I think he'll be ok for a bit. Going to get a new fitting soon too.

Just put the temp probe under the light :) Not that it matters atm,As you're getting a new bulb etc etc.
Is it a dimmer stat?or the ministat 100 etc? |

Lovely bit of interior decorating. CC will be loving all that foliage and nice shaped branch.
As previously mentioned, to save any heart ache I would leave the light off and out until the guard arrives. He may not have shown any interest up to now in the bulb, but they can be inquisitive, fast and daft, out of the blue.
They can cope with periods of cold. |
