I'm new to this forum and I just need a little advice!
I have an approx 2 year old male pastel ball python and this evening when I got home from college I could hear faint 'sneezing' and 'whistles' coming from inside his vivarium. I got him out to check on him and he seemed his happy, inquisitive self. I was still worried though so I phoned a couple of reptile vets in my area. As it was out of hours all I could get was basic advice. I was told to increase the temperature and make sure it wasn't too humid. He's not made any more noises since about an hour ago and he seems happy in his hide. Could these be possible symptoms of R.I?

| yeah could be early signs of an RI but also could just be nothing could be a little bit of retained shed around the nostrils mine sometimes make this whistling sound after a shed do what your doing then get him to a vet as soon as you can just to be on the safe side. most RI infections can be treated if caught early so don't worry to much. oh and welcome to the forum |

He hasn't shed for a while, but he feels like he should go into shed soon. He seems his normal character. Is there anything else I can do to prevent this? |

it could be many different things that can cause these the main cause is usally a bacteria or virus that affects the respiratory system, all you can do is just make sure you keep you viv clean temps correct etc. this is still no guarentee but should help in preventing such infections

what you have been told just up the temps by a couple of degrees try not to handle him too much, until you have seen the vet there are syptoms to look out for also bubbles of mucous from the nostrils or mouth, elevated head or even the snake may get on a perch and lower its head to drain the mucous. but it still could be just coming in to shed, as the skin tightens just before, around the nostrils causing whistling sometimes, like what your discribing.

| Okay awesome, thank you so much for all of your help. No signs of mucous or bubbling. So I am really hoping its because he could be going into shed soon. He's just chilling under his hide now which is what he pretty much does every day haha, so I'm guessing he's comfortable. |

| yeah dont stress to much, like i said if it is an ri you sound like you have got it early if there are no other syptoms he will be fine after a dose of treatment from the vet, good luck and keep us posted. |
