Just had another great result for all you out there splashing the cash.

Just brought a 3 foot viv. Set up for bearded dragons. Comes with uv lamp, 12w heat mat, daylight and a ceramic holder for basking bulb. All for a price of... Have a guess...

£20. Result :-) took his arm at same time.

But my question is. Would a 40w basking bulb be ok? As I've got one already. I'm gonna do away with the heat mat. Obviously the uv light is fine and the daylight will be used.

Or could I use the uv light as the day light?

Thanks

You need the uv light plus a heat bulb as the uv doesn't give out any heat lol. Only need one bulb tho they don't need light at night I put mine on in the morning at 30 degrees and turn it down to 22 at night and turn uva off after 12 hours aswell

Yeah I no I'm removing the heat mat. And I'm going to get a bulb. But will a 40w bulb be strong enough for a 3 foot viv.

Should be cause I have 60w in mine and it heats up quick and there won't be much difference between a 40 and 60 watt bulb the 40w will just have to work a bit harder lol

personally i would use a 80-100w bulb so as said it wont have to work as hard getting the temp's up to 40-43c(105-110f)

the uv light is fine on it's own if there's not much daylight getting to the viv

A three foot viv is a little on the small side for Beardies. An adult will need a four foot or bigger. But you might already know that and be planning on moving them later on.

Also, when you say Dragons, do you mean your going to keep more than one in the same house? I know some people do and have no problems with it, but personaly I think it's a very risky thing to do (after reading up on the horror stories).
But again I could have got that wrong.

But seen as I lost all confidence in getting my Beadie, 'cause I didn't think I'd be able to look after him/her properly, then maybe I should just butt out.

And even so, you can't complain at twenty quid for all that : )

dont think its about the size of the dragons - its more for them to effectively thermoregulate. the hotspot is about 10 degrees higher than a royal you see.

See if you reach temps with just the bulb. At night they can survive extreme cold.

If house gets too cold at night anyway the heat bulb will come on a bit to get it up to the right night time temp lol

dont have ANY heat on at night.

beardies need a large drop in temperature in order to get proper rest.

it gets extremely cold at night in the wild.
