Hullo,
I'm considering buying a Rosy Boa, and was wondering if you can mix one in the same vivarium WITH my Royal, or should I buy a seperate tank???

| you will need a separate setup for the boa as cross specie's co habitation is not a good idea plus you need to quarrentine the new snake away from any other snake's for about 3 month's this is espacially important with boa's because of IBD |

Just out of interest, it states that I need a 10-20 gallon tank for one of these boas. I don't have loads of room to have loads of relatively large tanks. Would you say this is big enough?

| Rosy boas dont grow very big (i think its around 3ft). Im no good with gallons, but id say you need at least 2ft viv for an adult. 3ft would probably be ideal. |

Are there any other snakes that can be mixed with my Royal? I really want a second, but am trying to avoid getting another enclosure!

| Its not a good idea to mix any species of snakes together as it would probably stress them out specially if its 2 males as they might fight and if its a male and female they might try breeding witch would probably stress female out |

Because of the relatively slow rate with which symptoms of IBD show up in Boas the quarantine required for one is at least 6 months. It will rapidly kill a Royal python so if quarantine is not successfully carried out you could have all your Royals dead and buried before the Boa even shows a symptom.

| james.g, co-habbing snakes can be stressful for them and is highly frowned upon by most people. In the wild, snakes are solitary creatures and choose to get together for one thing only, breeding. Forcing them to share living space, to some, would be considered cruel. If you don't have the space for another viv/tank, you could consider either buying or constructing your own rack. This is basically a shelving unit that is heated via Flexwatt heat tape and allows you to house several Royals in a much smaller space through the use of plastic tubs (RUBs). I highly recommend that if you can't get a rack, you get a separate viv/tank for a new snake. Not only will this protect your current snake's health by avoiding introducing possible illnesses from the new snake, it will keep them from fighting or trying to breed at too young of an age. |
