Before i take a break...i need some advice..

I have Peanut a normal royal..

Echo a possible low grade Enchi, was told to put him to a spider and see what happens, but i am not keen on Spiders.

Picking up a lovely normal female royal this week...

and then a baby end of June and another Baby in a few weeks, these will be female

That will give me 3 females 2 males

I want two more males..i am thinking of morphs, not going to bother with hets...

these are my choices..

Yellow Belly (M)

Pastel (M)

Fire (M)

Mojave, not sure to get male or female on the mojave...

which would you pick and why?

will help me out if i have an understanding of why...

They are all hets

I'd go for the Fire to make Fireflies with your Enchi.

That would depend on the morphs and their genetics.

that is a good idea actually, cos if Echo turns out not to be low grade as i am not convinced, i would still have the mojave to make mojo fires..

The gene type (recessive, co-dom or dom) is not important, whether they are heterozygous or homozygous is more relevant.

Gene's come in pairs.

The parent will pass one of those pair down to its offspring.

If the parent is Homozygous, both genes are the same, i.e. Homozygous Pastel means that the parent has both Pastel genes.

So that parent MUST pass a Pastel gene to its offspring.

If the parent is Heterozygous, the genes are different. So at the Pastel location (locus) for instance it would have one Pastel gene and one Normal gene.

That parent therefore has a 50% chance of passing the Pastel gene down and a 50% chance of passing the Normal gene.

Does that help?

possibly... does anyone else feel even dummer trying to figure this out? cos i do

I need to read something uncomplicated...

my understanding now is this, you can shoot me down if i am wrong..lol..

Homozygous, makes 100% hets even if not say pastel

Heterozygous there is a 50% chance of hets? and only half the babies will be of that parents morph?

i am wrong arent i...

hides face in embarrassment...lol

wheres the bible on this from beginning to end...

Yes, I was just using Pastel as an example, anything homozygous will pass one of those genes on to offspring, did you look at that other link?
