Hi, i will be getting a common boa in a few weeks and will be keeping him in a 4x2x2 until/if he out grows it. I need to buy all new heating equipment, guards, pulse stat etc etc.
I have been looking at the Microclimate AHS which as its an all in 1 system does not work out to cost much more than buying all the equipment separately and looks a lot tidier imo.
just wanted peoples views on these, if they are worth the money, efficient etc? i was thinking of getting the 250w model, would this be sufficient?

ive not used one myself but they are very good from what ive read but you need to buy a guard for it as the cover get's red hot.
i think kelf and richard v use them at the moment not sure who else though |

| ah thats one of the things im struggling finding an answer to as they claim to have built in guard with a cut out when it gets too hot but then they sell guards for them separately so why would you need to buy a guard if they already have one. confusing! |

| someone mentioned on a boa group the other day that they measured the temp of the built in guard when the heat cut off an was 110c! |

I use one of these for my boa, which has a heat guard over it, and it is needed if the snake can climb up-to it imo. They are a great job, sit nice and
neatly to wherever you put it, it recommends the side wall, though i put mine on the roof of the viv, and it keeps the temps great, day/night cold or warm.
I didnt have mine guarded when i was running it without nippy in it, testing it, i put my arm in the viv to put water in the bowl, hit my elbow off it and
it gimi a little burn, so i though it would be safer to put one on it, even if he couldnt reach it, but for peach of mind. Anyway rambling on a bit,....
So yes i love them, simple easy and work great! |

| thanks for that info! they look really slim and more discreet than a huge guard hanging down covering a lamp! i was hoping to place it near the bottom of viv like on some pics ive seen to try and hide it a bit! would it work lower down? |

| Yes it would be fine for a 4x2x2 i had one heating a 5x2x2 untill the wires split(was really old an came with a viv) i will get some new ones when ive got some spare cash |

| Hi there, as chris mentioned and he was right I use these in all my bigger vivs I went for the 500watt as in 7ft vivs a 250 would be fine for what you need, you definatley need a guard as even though it has a thermal cut out the unit front still gets very hot. The guards only cost around £15. All this said I recently did up one of my 4x2x2 vivs for my smaller Burm, used a pulse stat and a 250watt bullb, the heat was very intense almost too hot even with the stat the cool end was around the 28deg mark and some. This was an experiment for me and I changed this set up very shortly after. When my boa was in its 4x2x2 viv I used a 150watt ir bulb and it heated it perfectly and that is now what Im using in the smaller Burms viv. Hope this is of some help to you any thing else I can help with let me know. |

| Yea thanks for that. The main thing that drew me to these is that they look so discreet so I'm open to other suggestions if they are a bit over kill for a 4x2x2 viv, just can't stand the lamps with big ugly cages! |

| Yeah they are real tidy units, a 250 watt should be fine for your viv if you wanted to go down that route, but as I mentioned the guard is £15 ish and then you could get a pulse stat and bulb and possibly a guard |
