Hi guys, I'm sure some of you would have seen this since its an old article, but I was pretty shocked at some of the things said, and If true, it is scary what people/professionals will do for extra income.

i knew a lot of vet's just in it for the money but didn't realise to what extent.

he raise's some very good point's one of them being about exploratory surgery, a friend's dog a few year's back cut the big pad on it's foot an they wanted £300+ to check if anything was in there
you could clearly see it was just a cut so just keeping it clean an a washed with salt water it healed up perfectly.

My local one is cats & dogs only kinda thing, they know nothing about anything else.Don't even do any kind of surgery.it's just pill pushing etc etc.

And they go out doing the horses once a week.So yeah it's all about the money. They even have a shop :) selling food and all sorts.Ofc only dog and cat food/toys :)which also has a 90% markup on other retail prices :)

And it's not just afew racks,it's a full blown shop :P

sadly i agree, i "like" our vets to a point but they do my tree in sometimes.

The cat was slightly overweight apparently, they wanted us to switch food to the one they sell - dry food which is full of carbs- which would defo make her fat!!

My boyfriend volunteers at a cat shelter, our cat has a permanent wonky walk due to a birth defect in the brain. When we found her as a stray the vet talked us into blood tests and x-rays (which involved general anesthetic). The vet at the cat shelter saw one video of her walk and nailed it immediately and warned us that the vet had taken us for a jolly good ride - apparently it is a common problem with kittens, one can just be born that way.

Anytime i go to the vets i switch off a bit and let the bull-s**t go in one ear and out the other. One of the vets is good though and doesn't over sell things or act this way, but the other really does!

I think vets are just in it for money also. My German shepherd need a operation to have a ball removed as one never dropped since birth. And can turn cancerous. Which I completely understand but after talking to vet and insurance they both said it was a fine line in which the insurance will pay for it. And it's a 300-400 costing op! By all means I'm not one to be tight and not pay but when I pay 30-40 quid a month insurance. I would like the vets to try and push and help me fight the case a little more. But they don't seem bothered.

Our cats tail got chopped off by a slammed door in summer too and the price for that was a stupid amount.

It seems to just be a job to these guys other than a job were helping people/animals is a honourable opportunity. Same as NHS today I suppose lol no one can win

Well I feel lucky then. My vets is amazing! Luckily they do cats etc. and reptiles. Last year my kitten reacted badly to anaesthetic and nearly died. They cared for him 24/7 for a week, without their care he would have surely died. They entire surgery took a personal shine to him and called in their days off to check he was ok and worked extra unpaid hours to care for him. When I came to pick him up the first thing the vet said was "you've come to take our baby away from us haven't you" . Then came the bill... imagine, surgery, microchipped, 24/7 care for a week, IV drips, he was blind so they gave me a cage to borrow so he didn't get distressed, I feared the worst. It cost £30 in total. Not to mention several follow up appointments. They said it was bad luck (which it was) but happened on their watch and they felt responsible to care for him. Hillside Vets in Nantwich are saints and truly care about animals. When I had a cat that was very poorly before it wasn't really a choice whether she would be put down because it was the kindest option, they always do their best.
