We went into Bernies to pick up our new royal yesterday and I spotted a gorgeous Brazilian rainbow boa for sale. I've been reading up on their care since and the biggest problem seems to be keeping the humidity high. What do you guys think. If anybody has one, what do you keep your in and how do you keep the humidity up. We frequently go away for the weekend, which isn't a problem with the other guys, just make sure they have plenty water and are locked up secure, but if a BRB requires daily misting and humidity management then maybe I should forget about having one. |

I looked after one for a while, the viv was partitioned with flexi glass and siliconed this side was the side that had all the moss and water the other side had forest bark type stuff which held the humidity very well. There is something very similar on the brb sister site on how to make a viv. I had no problems looking after this snake. You need to clean the vivs out a little more frequently due to moisture causing high bacteria but other than that general snake care is mostly the same as every other. |

For your weekends away you could look into using the new habistat digital stat as the extra socket on them can be used to power foggers and misters there are 2 on/off settings and they can be set to seconds so if you required missing twice a day to maintain humidity these would be perfect switching them on for however long was needed to mist sufficiently |

I was looking at that on the rainbow forum Richard. May go that way or go glass terrarium. Can't decide. What sort of heating did the one you looked after have.
Like the idea of the fogger carlb.
Jane suggested a fountain but aside from the keeping it clean issues I would have though the constant vibration from the pump would drive them crazy. |

I guess the care requirements are very similar for BRBs and CRBs
I keep my CRB at room humidity. I did have a fogger running in the old viv but I scrapped that.
I use a large dog water bowl that gets changed out every 2-3 days. Access to clean, fresh water is more important to rainbows than humidity
Temps wise, just like my GTP I keep the CRB a little cooler. 27-28c is about as warm as it gets
I don't spray or do anything to adjust the humidity and she sheds fine. Eats like a horse if you let her and is generally a piece of cake to care for.
BRBs are proper beautiful as well

Cheers Fezza. The old decision o mometer is swinging towards the "do it" side. The iridescence of the BRB is mesmerising. |

You said it!
Its one of those colours that you just can't capture with a camera. You've gotta see it with your own eyes. Then you fall in love and its game over
I forgot to add, my CRB is in a 4x2x2ft with an AHS |

Plus, if you are thinking of spraying, the Orchid bard will help hold some moisture |

Cheers Richard. I'm going to have to get her/him. Just too smitten with her beauty. Going to have to wait a week or so until she's had a couple more feeds. Can't wait. |

My mate has a brb and it's gorgeous. She finds the moss hide does the job for a successful shed. Hers is a bloody nuisance with feeding and insists on being hand fed with the pinky held in its mouth. It's a real diva but very cuddly |
