Hey guys i woke up this morning and looked over to my viv as normal. And my habistat temperature display said 23.5º Just wondering if thats too low or just fine because that side where kahn was there is a heat pad hooked up to a habistat that keeps a matt temp of 30º Is that a fine air temp above the mat say about 3-4 inches |

Yeahh ive turned the mat up a little and once the lamp is turned on during the day the ambient sits about 28-29. He seems happy because hes regulating his own temp between the warm and cool side. May buy another ceramic lamp and either red or black bulb with a dimmer for night? |

Ideally you don't want to make your heating too complex, the more complex it is the more that can go wrong and the more expensive it will be to buy and run.
I personally prefer ceramic bulbs on dimming thermostats running 24/7. It does the job simply and efficiently. It also cuts out unnecessary lights in a vivarium of a nocturnal animal. I'm personally not a fan of heat mats in vivariums I think the risk of burns is too high in comparison with properly guarded bulbs where the risk is minimal (all bulbs need a guard to prevent the snake touching it and getting burnt or climbing on it and smashing it causing cuts and electrocution).
Small power LED lights can be used for viewing, avoiding white light as nocturnal animals are not fans of white light and LEDS don't get hot so don't require guards.

So you have the stat probe and another thermometer on the mat? Then another probe 4 inches above that?
Why?Just have a probe on the mat,and another on the cool side :)How big is this viv?As unless your room is hot a mat won't heat up the other side of the viv.It will only really get you a hot spot right where the snake lays. |

Sorted my problem guys :) Went and bought a 150w red bulb and thermostat. Temperature on the hot side is climbing nicely and seems to have settled at 30-31 degrees. Amd the cooler side is about 26-27. |

Yeah I already had a Komodo porcelain with a cage. But I was using a 100w bulb. It simply wasn't enuf but the 150w is holding heat much better and just sitting here I herd a little rustle and Kahn had popped over to his cool side for a good 30-45mins so he's thermoregulating fine... Peace of mind :) |

that's good then :)the red light would bug me,after doing all the viv nice :) I'd like to be able to see it all hehe.
So i'd have gone with led lighting/normal bulb, and a ceramic :) Glad it all seems sorted now :)
The stat you have works fine with the bulb? |

Yeahh the new bulb works fine and ive set the matt probe directly ontop of the heat matt under an inch of substrate and thats set to 30 degrees. Not the hot side of the tabk with the new bulb is sitting at a constant 30-31 degrees.
