I'm looking for some help with the placement of the stat probe.
I'm using a habistat digital stat with a ceramic bulb. The bulb is directly above the warm side hide and the probe is on the aspen in front of the hide. I'm getting 32c on the aspen where the probe is but inside the hide is only 28c.
If I move the probe inside the hide to get 32c the temp outside will obviously be higher, but will it be dangerously high ?
How else can I get the right temp inside the hide for my Royal ?
Thanks
J
Black stat probe is infront of hide / cable going inside is temporary thermometer probe checking inside temp.
I was wondering about that myself a few weeks ago when setting up a viv for my boa, in the end i placed the probe in centre of viv and aimed for 30. so he can choose the temperature he needs. Id guess if you did that with a royal it would need to be slightly less than 30 in centre though
What your really looking for is the ambient air temp, which you will be acheving using the ceramic, the basking spot will obviously be directly under the heat source. My stat probe is just to the side of his hot hide at a temp of 31deg I really don't think you should worry to much if your getting the correct temp under the heat source and your cool end temps are good, happy days. My royal never moves from his cool hide . I use 3 thermometeres as I'm parnoid myself one in the hot end cool end, and one at floor level in the middle this generally reads 28/29 deg. Some I am pretty happy with that.
