hey guys, im just in the process of moving Lecter into his viv, :), i have attached a cermaic bulb (150W) to a pulse stat etc. however i have set the stat to 32 degreeish, and let it sit to go to temp, and it is struggling to raise the temp to the required level. i though a 150W bulb would be sufficient. i have therefore, changed the stat to a simple on off stat, to see if it is a problem with the pulse stat rather than the blub. i ahve pics to highlight the set up, any help would be appreciated.

Hi whats the temp directly below the ceramic, as I see the probe for the digi gauge is next to the stat prob, if thats the case your reading from wrong spot.if not what size viv is it.
Also is that a plastic bulb holder , as they melt from the heat of ceramic.

You don't want to use an on/off stat, that will only make it worse. It should be getting to temps, using what you have :P and with the hot weather we're having atm.

How long are you leaving it to heat up? with the door closed etc? Also they tell you not to place the probe against anything. As it can throw the reading etc.I wouldn't have put the bulb, right into the corner either. As it might be 32 right in the corner,But not where he basks :) Unless you plan to put a hide right in the corner, near them probes?

Also that does look like a plastic bulb holder.

It's a ceramic bulb holder and the stat probe and thermometer probe are tacked to the back wall in an attempt to read ambient air temp? If this is wrong where would u recommend I place the two probes?

Just move the stat prob back a bit and place the temp prob under the ceramic where the hot spot should be and see if that helps.

You want it to read at ground lvl,but its at ground lvl anyway.after you put some substrate in.

So how long are you leaving it to heat up?without opening the doors etc.

it should be getting to more then 27c,where it is with a 150w bulb.

I'd test out your gear first, unplug the stat and just run the bulb.To see if it climbs in temps.test the stat, just get the both probes warm and see if the stat light starts to blink.

150w bulb should definitely not be struggling, especially at this time of year. Have you tried another thermometer. I found my exo terra ones to all be fairly unreliable. I work in a lab, so I borrowed a proper calibrated thermometer and found them all to be a few degrees out. The analogue ones are even worse.

There not overly bad hehe, the price is however :P

Like i said,i'd test everything to make sure something isn't faulty,Check your bulb holder to.To ensure all connections are good,Also try another bulb if you have one :)

I have tried another bulb, which works fine, (light emitting), so there is obviously a fault with the ceramic bulb I got. contacted the online seller and they are gonna post me out a new bulb straight away :),
