It was raining today so the planned trip to the beach was canceled, & we decided to go for "a look around the reptile shop" oh how that phrase makes me laugh....
This is what my girlfriend came back with. Lucky for me I don't get paid till next week! but I'm still working on the Boa project

This is Ernie a Veiled Chameleon.

Nice looking baby cham :) Looks like a male.Nice setup too Afew things.

Take out that uvb bulb and replace it with a 5.0 uvb strip.I'd get rid of the substrate to since he's a baby. You'll be risking impaction due to the amount of food he/she needs.Unless your hand feeding him lots a day?

Very very unlikely to eat greens from a bowl.Much better to place full leafs from greens in around the stick/vines.More of a chance of them eating it this way.

Also make sure its getting lots of calcium at every feed.

Thanks guys,
Advice is always welcome so thanks Boomslang. We dusted some small crickets with calci powder as we do for our Beardie but didn't think about putting the greens up on the plants/vine.
Why the UBV strip over the bulb? Its a 5.0 bulb. Would the strip give better Light cover of the setup?

Why the UBV strip over the bulb? Its a 5.0 bulb. Would the strip give better Light cover of the setup?

They've been known to cause issues health wise for chameleons. As for bulb, the mesh absorbs alot of the uvb.So as you have it in a dome. The uvb that is getting through is funneled in a tight area down.Them bulbs Don't push the uvb down that far either. So unless he stands under it,it's kinda uesless.

Where as a arcadia strip, will give you full effect across the whole cage.So he can be basking under his heat light and be getting uvb at the same time,Which is what you want :)

As for the veg etc,it's very rare they eat them at all.But like said,i had one that would eat it from the vines/trees etc.

Sometimes if they do eat tons of plant matter,it can also indicate a problem like dehydration.

Give him/her plain calci powder every feed,and a vit/mineral supplement once/twice a week with d3.

Canopy sorted & is giving much better light to the cage. Couldn't get one with heat built in so i'm using the canopy with twin UVB bulbs & a separate basking bulb but its giving good heat & light now so thanks for the info.

On another note - I've just been creating a false bottomed setup. I ordered a Pandinus Cavimanus Africanus : African red clawed scorpion yesterday from BugzUK :)

Its the Exo Terra with twin bulbs, wanted the strips but he didn't have that one. The twin bulb one I got was one he had put together for a full setup & on display so he gave me a 10% discount on it! As soon as I put it on you could see the difference & Ernie seems very happy.

I left his food bowl in as well as putting some veg up in the branches, watched him come down his vine that is above the bowl & he was using his tongue to pick up the veg, very funny to see for the first time.

Remember he won't be in that viv very long, they grow really fast :)
Then you can decorate his adult viv however you want. With live plants in pots or a planted viv etc.

Keeping it simple in his baby viv, without stuff on the floor etc etc. Will avoid problems later, and get him of to a good start.

Get the strips when you can, trust me you'll need them in his adult viv.there miles better then the bulbs. :)
