Hi guys,
Was cleaning out Madam's tank this morning (big poo) and when I had picked up all the substrate in the area I noticed some small whitish bugs on the glass bottom.
I've done my reading and would just like some reassurance that I'm handling the situation correctly and any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.
First question, are these mites? I always thought they were balck, not white.
So I have so far done the following.
1. Removed snake and put her into her old tiny faun whilst I carry out below.
2. Removed all rocks, substrate, everything from tank.
And once I'm done posting this I will
1. Take tank to garden, filll up to brim with fairy liquid / water solution. 2. Leave to stand for 30 minutes 3. Wash and dry thoroughly 4. Kitchen towel as substrate 5. Only two hides and water bowl, bare essentials. 6. Replace snake in tank
7. Order hypo mites and introduce them. 8. Submerge rocks in bleach / water solution for an hour then rinse thoroughly and leave to dry for a day and return to tank only when mite issue solved.
She is acting perfectly normal and doesn't seem bothered at all so I guess I should carry on feeding normally?
Thanks

Hi Frambo Sounds like you have bark mites, which thrive in moist orchid bark type substrate. If you do a search on the dark side (Rfuk) there are loads of posts/advice on them. Pretty much boils down to what you've done. Clean everything out and keep the viv dry. Haven't experienced this myself, only going on some of the posts I read on the forum. Good luck with the critters. |

What shape were the little white bugs? They may well have been springtails which are harmless to your snake and good for your viv as they are little cleaners springtails are like tiny grains of rice in shape mites are round |
