Hi guys,

I think Rebel is going into shed, he has been less active the last 2 days and now his eyes are going a milky blue colour. Any idea when it should be from now as I would love to watch it!

I have just moved his water bowl up the warm end and will mist daily, is this correct?

Any other tips 'n' tricks to make it as easy as possible will be very much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Bram

Should be around 3 days. Just most every day. I usually do it in morning and before bed. And he should be fine.

Some people use it to hold humidity up. But I havent and my royal sheds fine all the time. Just few mists of water.

Sounds like your doing everything correct , I would say it may take more than 3 days though, perhaps 3 days from when the eyes clear. Good luck trying to watch I only seen it a few times and I have had snakes for years.

Oh the joys of trying to catch them shed. My advice, get a corn snake, they are exhibitionist stripper shedders. I've seen Duke, my Royal shed once in three years, they roll it off like a sock, just end up with a ball of shed skin.

Aha - thanks Rob! Here was I thinking Honey was unusual, 'cos all the videos I've seen show snakey slithering along, leaving behind it a neat, complete, ghostly inversion of itself - Honey produced (I can't imagine how, so I'd love to see this on video!) the 'rolled-up sock' that you describe! I'm so pleased to hear that this is normal behaviour. By the way, it took ages to unravel the 'sock' and discover that it was a complete, one-piece shed, from eye-caps to tail-tip - fab! She's in blue again as I write, so I'll see how it goes this time!

Sorry Danny, no - but since my last post I've found a video of a Boa shedding, which shows the 'sock' effect, as well as some interesting editing!. Here's a link:

...so I now know how it happens, kind of!

Quick update: Honey has produced another faultless one-piece shed, again tightly rolled and inside her hide. Does anyone else have a RP that shows this apparent modesty? I don't think I'm ever going to witness a shed if she insists on performing in private!
