All of our snakes in one corner of the sitting room now have mites. That consists of 12 snakes in 5 vivs and 7 fauns. Three weeks ago I cleaned out all of the enclosures using disinfectant then frontline, treated the snakes with frontline and removed all furniture and substrate. Boiled and treated the hides and left for a week.
A week later I re treated them all again as I noticed some were starting to soak again.
After a week everybody seemed happy so put some substrate back into some of the vivs including our Boas 6*3*3 viv, which takes a lot of bark to cover.
Anyway, a few days ago I noticed that a couple of them had started to soak again (dammit) and found mites in the water.
Just received a batch of 25000 hypoaspis mites and spread then around all the vivs and fauns, so I hope this works.
They arrived in a sort of shake and vac container.
Put little piles of them in each enclosure and misted them down.
I took Winnys large water bowl out so she couldn't keep soaking and give the mites a chance to get onto her. I don't think she was amused. |

| Thanks Joe. Frontline usually works for us but with so many enclosures and snakes to do, I must be missing areas. This is the first time trying the hypoaspis mites. I'm hoping this works without having to empty out the big viv again as that root in Winnys viv weighs a tonne. |

| Cheers Jonny. This is the worst we've ever had. On the other two occasions it was just one or two that had them and one treatment of frontline got rid of them (although we still treated twice just to be sure). I've got high hopes for these hypoaspis mites. If this doesn't work it's going to be a nightmare stripping down all the vivs and re ~ housing the snakes during a good frontline or callingtons treatment. |

| These came from Ebay for £29. I believe that once they run out of mites to eat, they move onto the eggs. When there is nothing left to eat they just die off. |

If this doesn't work I'll have to buy a load of rubs and mats and use the spare room. Fortunately we have a spare 4 foot viv that Winny can use.
Don't want to have to go down that road, so I'll probably get another batch of HMs in 10 or so days and introduce more to extend their cycle. |
