Hi guys, my name is SilverWings and I'm a snake-a-holic.

Long time lurker, first time royal owner, thought it was about time I introduced myself. I have two adult corn snakes, a bunch of hatchlings, an aberrant cali king, a taiwan beauty snake and now a little 7 week old royal.

I do have some concerns about her...does this pic look normal to you?

She looks...pointy. It doesn't seem like any kink I've ever seen (some of my babies have tiny kinks, all of them on the spine). I'm not sure what it is, she just looks squashed. Vaguely wondering if she's been dropped or roughly handled :/ What do you guys think?

Hi SilverWings! Welcome to the site.

Yes, she is kinked. Kinks can happen through genetics, incubation error, or injury. Do you know her history?

Snake owner since Oct 2008, so yeah, I'm no expert.

Unfortunately not, she was a trade for one of my corn snake hatchies. She was dropped off while I was out, and my partner doesn't really know what to look for in a healthy snake. Had I been here I would have said nope...

I'd be straight onto them to find out the history, it doesn't look like a spinal kink but does appear to have quite the deformation in its ribs. It may be just exaggerated because of the way it's sat, does it feel significantly different as It moves through your fingers? Also did you get any feeding records etc?

She does feel different, it's like her ribs just stop where you see the flat bit, but I can palpate her belly and feel them and with slight pressure outwards she looks about normal. There's another bit like it but only the width of a finger. I'm starting to think injury to be honest :/ Not entirely sure what to do, it's not like I can put her in a cast. If it is an injury I don't know if it's likely to heal.
