just picked up this boa from the local rescue so i can try an get it a bit tamer and find it a new home
it's quite agressive an like's to bite the poor thing was being fed an xl rat every week by the previous owner an it's barely 4ft long so very overweight
will get a pic from above tomorrow so you can see better how small it's head it compared to the rest of the body

can see how the tail suddenly taper's off at the vent here

Wow that's a bit of a porker! Hat off to you for taking it in. Wish I had the space to do the same but no rescue places exist in my part of the world anyway!

Yes & no, snakes & some lizards are easy to get hold of apart from Retics & Burms, you need a breeders license to buy them from a shop but are available if look around (wink wink). Inverts like spiders & scorps are just about impossible to buy, never seen any in shops or on web sites. As for rescues, no chance! the only rescue I know of is for dogs & they don't have many centers.

There are lots of shows & some really good breeders of snakes but just need to look around. We don't have the same sort of retail outlets that exist in the UK.

ah right shame it's a bit more difficult to find stuff over there interesting about needing a licence to buy burm's an retic's, can anyone apply for the licence?

Yep anyone can apply, but its best to take the breeders course which is a five day course covering snakes & lizards.

so what would happen if you had one without a breeder's licence? or do you only need the licence to buy one from a shop?

Thats a big question Chris. France & red tape are a complicated issue..lol . Basically I know of some breeders that will sell you a Retic or Burm quite happily on the understanding that you need a licences to own one. They may however forget to ask you to show it. At this point I will add that these are not normally bad or shady breeders Its just the way things are done here, buying a car, bar or snake, the French love to avoid tax & the authorities at all costs.
These guys advertise freely in the public domain & are full registered businesses.
If I were to buy myself a Retic, Burm or more than three Boas I should have a breeders licence. If I had these animals without one not much would happen really, I would probably just be asked to take the course.
