Okay well today I was doing the general cleaning of the snakes and got to my last 6 which happen to be the offspring from my Pinstripe x Axanthic clutch.
Those include;
1F - 67g Crystal - 85g 3M - 74g 4M - 80g 5M - 64g 6M - 74g
They have all been feeding on and off since they hatched in September but no serious fasts to note I've not been worried about any of their health they've all been fine since they hatched.
Today I checked on 5M first (Male number 5) and noticed a rather large bulge, they were all fed 2 days ago, we had a blunder with the rats and they were all given rat fuzzies instead of rat pups but I didn't consider it a huge mistake they're only a bit smaller than pups and most of them are ready to move up anyway.
Upon lifting the snake up, into a position where his head was lower than his body his nose and mouth started to leak a light brown foul smelling liquid.
I left him on the side while I cleaned his rub and watched him for about 10 minutes where I noticed he was moving in the same way a snake moves when it is pushing a meal down it's throat, a kind of wriggling left and right you've all probably seen it before.
The next part I'm not 100% sure was happening or just a trick of my eyes but I think he's pushing the large lump back up towards his mouth, probably in an effort to regurgitate the meal.
Have considered a vet visit but after conferring with some other reptile keepers have decided to give the snake today to sort things out on his own figuring it better that he regurgitate in his own rub without being dragged out in the cold, long car journey, poked and prodded by a vet just to do what he would have done at home without the added stress.
So that brings me to where I am now, I will update this diary upon any new findings.
PS. It is important to note that all the other siblings are absolutely fine since their last check today. |

what is the temp in his rub? could be that he was taking longer to digest the slightly larger meal an picking him up has upset him an making him want to regurge |

Well had some time to compose myself now and looked carefully into the snake after a lot of second guessing my actions.
Still no idea what actually killed it, it's possible he drowned on the fluid he was bringing up but he only seemed to bring it up when his head was below his belly (being handled) and like chris said I'm not sure it would have drowned him since he was on a flat surface, possible though.
Once he was dead the rat inside was easy enough to push back up his system (it was already halfway up anyway) and it was barely touched by his digestion looked the same as it did 2 days ago, not sure what that tells us.
When I put pressure on his lower section to empty his bowels alot of blood flooded out, possible that he had been bleeding before but I think that might have just been because he was dead when I did it or even blood from the rodent he had been eating? Nothing else passed from his bowels.
Again this might be because he's dead but he looks absolutely tiny compared to his siblings when as you can see their weights were all similar last time they were checked, I had noticed a while back that he looked skinny but he was feeding okay so I just left him to it on the basis that I'd weigh him next month and see if there was any change, perhaps something was going on to keep him so skinny?
He's been laid to rest now and I won't be getting a Postmortem done so I guess I'll never really know what exactly happened, it all went so fast I thought I had a lot more time to figure out what to do I was still waiting on replies from a lot of reptile keepers for advice when he had already died. |

Sad news mate, so sorry to hear what happened. By the sounds of it, & i'm no expert. It could have already had an internal disorder or deformity & probably not much that even a vet would have been able to do. |

I'd be hugely surprised if it was transferable, thinking back this snake always looked a little worse for ware I just didn't pick up on it - I concentrated too much on the stats (How many feeds, what weight is he, etc) and not enough on actually examining the snake. I have taken precautions, the rub he was in has been steralised and everything has been cleaned out. |
