I've had my royal for about 2 years and he has a really unusual eating habit. He has only striked for his food like 5 times since I've had him and the only way he will eat is if I leave him in his feeding rub over night and literally just wait for him to eat it in his own time. 9/10 the next morning I wake up to a fat happy snake, however I just wanna know how I can get him to strike because I've literally tried everything haha. The rat is always warm enough and I always try to wiggle it in front of him to encourage him to strike. Any advice would be great! Thank you! :) x
If he's eating then you have nothing to worry about. 3 of my females drop feed, but they feed regularly and are putting plenty of weight on so happy days! On the flip side, my normal Royal male will only strike feed, but he goes on a fast from October to March every year. I'd just let him crack on doing what he's doing

Thank you! I was just a little concerned as most snakes are supposed to strike haha. I think he's a little lazy to be quite honest! Yeah he seems to be at the right weight and like I said the rat has usually been eaten by the next morning. Oh gosh that must be a nightmare! Saying that Kaiser went on a fast for a few months when he moved into his new vivarium. He's honestly one of the most stubborn royals haha
I don't worry about it, he doesn't lose a lot of weight and between March and October he eats like a demon. The only time I would worry is if there was significant weight loss or any signs of ill health.

Fair enough. Yeah I had a trip to the vets a few months ago due to an R.I problem. Luckily it had cleared up but the vet said that he was a healthy size and had an extremely clean mouth!
