at what age can u breed a royal? mine is 4-5years old and was thinking of breeding, but how old/big would the female need to be?

The female has to be 1500g+ and in good health.

As Matty says, 1500g+, 1800g ideally and 3 years+ old.

some say 1500, some say 1800...most if not all people would say 3 years.

what if it is at breeding weight but only two years old? or just over two?

that is the decision you have to make Anne.

I dont think it is hard to get a royal to the correct weight, but its the development of the reproductive organs that is the issue...Most people say 3 years to give them time to mature slowly.

Say you have a great feeding royal that gets to 1500g in 2 years. It will be more fat than muscule. If it can then not lay the eggs, its going to cause alot of stress and pain.

thats exactly what i thought Daz, hence i asked..

but in the wild it is often not 3 years am i correct? or maybe it would be older cos they might not reach maturity so quick depending on available prey items ..

am i wrong again?

its hard to say...maybe lots of females breed to young and die as a result...unfortunatly it is very hard to say, as im sure you would never find the remains to find out...
