Hi. I'm new to the forum. I've introduced myself and posted pics. I got my first royal on Monday as a birthday present. I've got him out today and have taken pics. As I noticed his body looks strange? I wondered if maybe he was underweight??
I'm probably just worrying over nothing but I like to make sure :-)

Hard to tell from head shots if you can get an accurate weight and age I can help more but it varies alot from royal to royal, the perfect body shape you're looking for a nice rounded triangle, if it's too triangular it could be underweight if it's too round it could be overweight.

That's actually quite heavy for his age. Sounds like he's doing fine.

It was only as he was moving about I noticed. Stretched out he doesn't have that indentation. Thanks for reply

You think he's overweight then? Lol he's been fed every 5-7days I have his records from hatching. He's on medium mouse. I haven't fed him as of yet. He weighs more than my 1yr old corn

As Kelf said, that's quite heavy for his age, but they all differ so much. As for his shape, one of mine sometimes goes like that when his head is curled up and flattens out again when he moves.
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your Royal. One word of warning. They are addictive!

Thanks! Oh yeah he's just soo adorable!! My partner said no more snakes after the corn I got last feb! But I spotted the royal in the petshop before Xmas and was hoping I'd get him!! I kept finding excuses to go see him at the petshop lol.
I got him for my birthday but only because my other half had no idea what to get me! He doesn't like them at all!! Been told no more animals in the house lol

My 1st one belonged to my son. He went to Afghanistan & I had to look after it. I fell in love with him so son got another one when he came home on leave. I fell in love with that one too! So son got a baby girl. After much discussion about him going on exercise etc it was decided that I should keep her here too! We are going to hopefully breed our Pastels in the near future.

Nothing wrong with that wieght, although that container he`s in, he`s not going to get the correct heat that he needs. They aren`t really suitable for Royals, im not saying its your fault but you`ve probably been sold the wrong equipment. ideally yo need a rub,

The faun I had from my corn snake. I've put him in it temporary until I can divide the 4ft viv that the corn is in. I did look at rubs but can't seem to find any that seem a suitable size.

As for his age the petshop were adamant he was 3.5months. I have his feeding sheet from the breeder that then got passed to petshop. Dated 02/10/13. Pet shop got him on the 5th jan. My o/h bought him for me on the 20th jan

The indentation is just different muscle positions and movement. My adults and young ones have them, and like you said are mainly noticeable when in resting positions.
As other have said, he's a nice size, which would mean he's a good feeder - never a complaint about that in a royal!
Generally I feed every 5- 7 days upto 500g, adjusting food sizes accordingly when needed,
Then every 10 days until they are on small rats
And after that every 10-14 days for anything bigger
That's just my personal feeding plan, everyone is different, and with royals, you are just happy if they eat come feeding night!!

He's my first royal he's on medium mouse. I've not fed him as of yet. He was fed Sunday and we bough him Monday. They did say he doesn't eat rats at all. Thanks for reply

It's probably worth turning him onto rats if you can, while he's still young - I'm told it's harder to do when they're older - and an adult will need a lot of mice!

Yeah I agree with Cliff. It's difficult getting them onto rats as they get older! I had a rough time with mine. He was too stubborn and I wasted so many rats. The earlier the better :)

Yep, stop the mice and go for rat fluffs/ large pups, i have a 5 year 2kg normal female who will only eat mice because i kept her on them for to long when i was a newbie.
