The snake in question is only about 6 months old and last weigh was just 85g and will not eat. She was then sudden;y went off her food 4 weeks ago..the little Champagne. All she does is climb out as soon as the rub lid is lifted.

I guess time to assist feed :(

if she's still looking plump an only been off food for 4 week's then no need to assist feed yet.

tuna brine, chicken stock, mouse/chick blood can work for scenting
what food item's have you offered? mice, rat's chick leg's, gerbils ect?

You're a way off needing to assist feed, it's not in any danger. They are the champions of not eating. You will get it eating again soon I'm sure.

I'm not suggesting I have anything like the experience of the others helping you, but here's a thought that might be worth considering. I've read that some owners feel defrosting in hot water can dilute the scent. I put my mice in a lidded tub on a radiator to defrost them and they get very warm (and niff like warm mice too..!). My little Royal now eats enthusiastically every week without fail. Just an idea :)

Funny, it's exactly what my snake's previous owner did. It's what I'm going to try at the weekend.

My little snakey is only about 2ft long and 290g and he's on small mice. They don't take that long to defrost and get very warm and on a rad - it seems to turn on all his feeding receptors (heat, smell, sight) and he strike feeds and contricts straightaway. Sometimes he'll try to swallow it back to front (tail first) until he works out that it slips down better head first.. lol.. I feed in his faunarium and never had him try striking me so hopefully I don't smell like dead mice.. ;)

... I forgot to mention that as well as radiator defrosting,I also avoid handling mice directly so that I don't transfer my own scent to them (bearing in mind how highly developed a Royal's Jacobson's organ is). I check they are fully defrosted through a sheet of kitchen paper and feed with forceps. It might seem O.T.T. but then I've never had feeding problems either. Best of luck anyway!

Just got home and she still wasn't interested in eating. Decided to try a gentle assist. As soon as the mouses nose was in her mouth she snatched, coiled and wolfed it down. Very pleased to see this tiny lady having a meal.

Thats not unheard of with young. A couple of years ago i bought a female Albino on on her feed chart she had a few marks "assist" over her first 6 months.

Royals owned "lots"

Update on bubbles. Last 4 feeds have all been refused when offered but wolfed down as soon as the noise is introduced into her mouth. Janie had bought some multi's so we offered her one of those last night. She practically through herself out of her rub to get it. Question now is she starting to strike feed again or are multi's just so dammed tasty that they can't resist them. Hopefully she will take her mouse on her own next feed.
