Nope, this isn't a late April Fool joke! My little Royal is only 290g and reliably takes a small mouse every week. But as he quickly returns to strike mode and looks around for dessert. After he ate a mouse on Monday, I gave him a 2nd small mouse last night (Tue) which he got very hyper about and struck/ate instantly. No problem, methinks, I'll just give him 2 next week. However, the little monster has other ideas. He's back zoned into feeding again today (Wed)and simply standing nearby is enough for him to follow me & strike the viv walls. He isn't a biter by temperament and happy to be handled. He's just expecting more nosh - shall I just keep going tonight with a 3rd or 4th until he's not hungry or regurgitates or ...explodes? ;) What d'ya think?
Meanwhile I'll start defrosting another mouse. Maybe he'd prefer a 12" pizza instead... |

No, don`t feed everyday. A mouse is no longer enough for him, so now with his strong need to feed get him onto the relevent sized rats. |

Makes good sense, Hodgie. Thanks. Maybe weaner rats would be a step up then; fuzzies don't look much bigger than mice. |

I never buy rats by name as they vary too much. I always ask to look in the freezer and pick what i want. |

Yep, I agree too :) I get them in person from my local dealer's freezer so I can check the size(they are also labelled by weight). I think he'll take a weaner OK, but I bought a fuzzy anyway as back up as they're still a bit chunkier than a mouse. Fortunately you can buy them singly if you prefer, which is handy when you are trying something like this and then I can buy a pack once I know what's best. Thanks again for the advice. |

Wooohooo... one weaner rat down the hatch and vanished never to be seen again. Needed a few stretches to squeeze the big lump down though ;D He's grown several inches since I bought him on 1 Feb and my luvverly new Salter digital scales tell me he's gone up to 315g (not surprised after all the food he's put away). |
