Hi all,
I am having a nightmare getting my Mohave (MoJo) to move from mice to rats. We have 5 corns that are all eating mice, defrosted the rat in with the mice but still hasn't worked.
She will not eat mice or rats are bleeding at all, so braining is not really an option.
She now weighs 618g empty and is shedding well.
A few weeks I have fed jumbo mouse and large one after the other.
I have tried black/brown rats, white rats with no luck. I have even tried different suppliers but no luck.

Any advice will be appreciated
Thanks
Sean

Not really advice to help you but I tried for a year to get my royal to switch to rats. Never happened and I ended up just giving him multiple mice. Don't have him anymore so not sure if new owner managed to make the switch in the end!

I'm on the same boat at the moment, I get all my hatchlings feeding on rats from day 1 so I don't have to have this issue, but just occasionally a hatchling will come across that refuses to anything anything but mice, I have 2 at the moment I'm trying to get onto rats.

All you can do is just keep offering and hope one day he'll change his mind, don't feel that you have to give him a mouse just because he refuses a rat, as long as he's healthy if he won't take his rat feel free to let him miss that meal, if he wants to eat he'll learn to take his opportunity to eat whatever comes along - or he could just starve himself but obviously keep an eye on the weight and don't let that happen.

I`ve had this problem for 6 years now with my 1st ever Royal that i bought, i just did what the pet shop said and fed her mice, did`nt know any better, by the time i tried to feed her rats it was too late. So you have two options-
follow on feed, feed mouse and as she has just about got to the last bit, gently nudge nose of a rat (approx 60g) into her mouth.
Or hold out until she really wants something to eat.

When I was trying to get Pandora my boa onto rabbits I went for the old frankenstein method. Making a rat-rabbit hybrid xP

I had this problem few years ago. What I did was warm up the rat and a mouse together then offer the mouse behind the rat. He could smell the mouse but struck at the rat and ate it. He's been on rats ever since. Hope this helps.

Indium is a nightmare, she will happily strike at Rats (most of the time!) and constrict them and then leaves them as if not interested, now and again she will eat them. She will always take mice. I have been trying all sorts of tricks to get her on to rats but I am worried she is getting a bit skinny in the attempt so i may have to relent and feed her endless Jumbo mice, sigh.

Stick to rats then, she will eat them when she is hungry.
