as i said in my other thread, i thought i would start a new one about it.
she is 1 year old approx. (haven't weighed her yet though.)
i picked her up yesterday, thought i saw something then, but i didn't scrutinise her for various reasons, one being that i probably would have still taken her on even if i was completely sure.
She has been a fussy feeder, co-habiting with another royal for approx 4 weeks, and is generally stressy, hissy, bity etc.
i suspect this is all because:
1: she was kept in a fairly large viv.
2:she was cohabiting with a 6mnth old male
3:she has mites

i noticed last night that she was fully submerged in her water bowl, she is currently blue so wondered if that was why, but checked the water bowl this morning and there were about 6 mites in the water.

so:

i have moved her into a rub, in a room away from other snakes.
she's on kitchen roll, with a bowl only big enough to drink from, not soak in and 1 card board hide, what else should i put in there? should i pack it out with lots of hides etc?
i also gave her a bath. i comprimised between BE's method and the one on the dark side, filled the bath up with about 3" water at 32*c and dumped in about 1ltr or sunflower oil.
she swam about and submerged herself fully several times but overall was quite chilled out for the first 15 mins but then she started to get a bit stressed so took her out after 20mins.
then i let her run through a towel a couple of times.
she was quite good, no hissing or striking, though she did pose to strike after i let her go through the towel, which all things considered is fair enough!

i have moved the viv she was in last night into the shed in prep for frontline... which i thought i had, but dont so will have to buy some on tuesday (i know, i know, i should have had some already, and my emergency vet savings went on the cat the other day )

I have read through BE's sticky on mite treatment (and have it saved in my favouries now too lol).

i have just tried to call her previous owner to warn him that his royal probably has them too... but no answer ;(
they rang me back. they already knew and have the predator mites in with them.
i'll keep my thoughts to myself now i think....

i'm a bit worried about the ardap/frontline around the spiders though... obviously i wouldnt spray it around them though, but the lingering effects on the vivs concen me with them- they are in the same room and i cant really move them out... i shall have to wrap my thinking gear around that one i think.
can ardap be used on the snake itself?

Ardap has had good reviews recently, I've never used it myself though, so can't speak first-hand.

You've got the same problem that I will have when I get infested with the little b*****ds. Predatory mites may well be the safest option. They won't bother you spiders and they will turn on each other or just die off once there are no snake mites left to eat.

i really hate the idea of them though, and it seems to me that they take longer to do their job than say, frontline etc

Ardap is the only treatment I will use for mites.
As for worrying about spiders, I have several T's and thousands of roaches in the same room with no problems.
If possible remove the spiders from the room, spray the entire viv including substrate as you dont need to remove it.
Leave it a while for the fumes to go then put the spiders back in the room.
I treated a 6 foot viv with ardap and put 4 faunariums directly on the viv with T's in with no problems.
If you cant remove all the spiders then you can spray newspaper with ardap outside, leave it 10 or so minuted then put the paper in the viv.

Ardap doesnt need to be used directly on the snake.
It remains active for about 6 weeks so 1 treatment is all you need as it will kill off any that hatch out from eggs already laid in the viv.
