Went to the reptile shop at my local garden centre - yes I know we dont recommend buying from them, but they are closing their reptile section and we went to see if they had any reductions and bargins we could scoop up.
Anyway, the boy who seems to take care of that section had approached my friend and told her to have a look at a Royal they had had in the day before.
On closer inspection, we thought it could be some kind of het, as it seems to have some different colourations and markings.
I had been on you tube the day before watching ralfe davies and he had pointed out how you might identify a het pied bald.
This little fella today seems to have those features - though we cant be 100% sure.
On asking the price it is £90 even though the boy in the shop seems to think there could be something special about it.
Should we take the chance and buy it hoping to get something out of it in the future????
Researching morphs - all the repitable breeders tell you to look for unusual marks, lines and colours - so should we go for it????
ANY advice please?? |

photos are best.
also even if it has markers for hets it is no guarantee ..the only way you might know if it is a het is if you know what the parents are..
I might be wrong so wait for BE to reply.. |

No Anne, you're right. The problem with Pied markers is that not all het Pied's have them and normal Royals can have them too, so its nowhere near foolproof.
Paying £90 is over the odds and only worthwhile if you've got, or will be getting, another Pied to breed with it on the off-chance that you may have got lucky. |

Yes, I know that to get pied balds you have to have another to breed it with but a friend of ours already has a genuine het and has been looking to get a pied to mate it with - so this is why I am querying. Anyway - thanks for the advice - will contact mate - perhaps he can come and view it with me. |

As Anne and Piers have said, the markers are no gaurentee. But, if you think your lucky, try and get them to knock the price down (as they are closing). |

Went back to garden centre managed to knock them down to £70, and bought the snake.
Not bothered whether its a true het pied, we decided that the colour and markings are different and would be nice to breed anyway. Nice and friendly to handle have taken a picture but not too good, will get more after his settling in period.
Photo not really showing true colour and not very focused. He has a real orange going down his sides and has tram lines on his underside. |

Yes Anne, a Lesser/Butter would be lovely if those patterns are at all genetic. |
