Hi
Right got slash on mite treatment & he is currently on kitchen roll.

I previously had him on orchid bark, but wanted to see what most use for substrate, can you please post what you find best & if you fancy, any reasons why you find it so?

i used Orchid bark to start with but changed to Kitchen roll because it is easier to spot any nasties...

Have stayed with it ever since, but you do have to buy a good quality one though, cos some brand of it just dont do it..lol..

See I prefer aspen to orchid bark, it seems much cleaner, but was told aspen wont hold the moisture enough to keep the humidity up.

Aspen. Ukglyn, you wont have any trouble with humidity using aspen, 50% humidity is around normal humidity and thats fine for a royal.

when I had orchid bark in my hydrogemeter (spelling) was reading 29% so I had to keep misting it up with a water spray to get it around 40 odd% but it droppped back down within minutes, reckon the thing could be faulty as heard lots of people say normal humidity is around 50%.
By the way its a digital Exo Terra one.

Yes, getting down to 29% is quite an achievement!

I was using beech chips, but have switched to aspen it's softer and I think it looks nicer. I am planning to give Aubiose (hemp core) a go, but haven't been able to get hold of any yet.

There are two shops that apparently stock it not far from where I work, but they're on the other side of Carlisle, and it needs to be a day when we're in Sarah's car as a bale of that won't go into an MX-5.
