At what age is it not safe to introduce another female to a male and female rat?
and do you take the male out once she is pregnant or leave him in there?
does anyone know what weight ,male and female adult rats get to? |

What sort of sick twisted rat breeding are you up to?
As for how big they get, have a look how much large/jumbo rats weigh. |

well i have a pair of rats here that i could not bring myself to feed to Kaz..
The male has such beautiful soft eyes, and he looked at me, so i kept him and the female together, but tomorrow i am off to get frozen multis as Oscar is being a pain to feed and i need more live for Kaz till my multis are a bit bigger and decided to get another female rat to breed some of my own... |

I swop all my rats about as long as where they are going is nice and clean and only one male they should be fine
As for pregnant one wait until she looks like she is going to blow and then put her on her own or with another pregnant one away from the male

Strange my females are dog tame when they are pregnant but as long as females are all kept together does not matter what age they should be ok |

They should be fine. I never had any bother with females fighting, as long as the cage is big enough for one to get away from the other while they sort out their pecking order. If you can be bothered you could slowly introduce them in stages (putting cages nearer each other, let them "play" in a large space, etc) But I don't think you need to. |

ok, well the one i want to put in is a lot smaller, i will see today, i may leave them separate as i have two cages anyway...but they like to live in groups dont they? |

another question,
how long an the baby rats be left safely with mum?
Multi babies have to be moved at 3 weeks or the parents will kill them,
so just checking on the rat situation..
thanks;-)

Rats and there babys can stay together but have to keep an eye on the babys as they can breed well young so is better to separate as soon as you can |

Well im not at that stage yet of culling my breeders yet but i did read that breed the females 6 times and then change(kill).I think they can breed from 3/4 months old the babys can be parted from mum after 4/5 weeks old Also for every baby Mum has a week off so 6 babys = 6 weeks off |

Danny, one more question..
when you take the males out after the girls are pregnant, can they be put in with other males or will the boys fight?
what will happen if i leave the male in with the female? will he kill the babies? |

Males will fight so im told but i never put 2 males together not worth the risk
Also the male can stay with the female as when my female drops her babys the male is always there and when i clean them out next then i move the male but the males can eat the babys if they wanted to.
Also if you did leave the male with the female for a long time she could be pregnant again they can get prgnant 5/6 days after she drops her babys which is no good for the female |

Danny, would i have probs with two females if the one that is not pregnant is dominant?
Is she likely to eat the other girls pups?
I have ten healthy rat pups at the moment, with another litter due soon.. |

trial and error to be honest i was told that all females and there babys can be kept together and the adult females will share and take turns in feeding
I tryed but the 2 females had a fight straight away within 2 mins of being together so now each rat has its own cage
But then 2 females together without babys and 1 rat has babys then theres never a problem
Its all trail and error
