Ok so I have another query. I fed my Royal on Wed night and I have not seen him since apart from a head looking out of his hide every now and again. Before I fed him he was out all quite often and up for being handled. I checked today just to see that he was ok and he hissed at me. There has been no change to his routine, still feeding every 5 days. I know they go and hide in the heat to digest but i expected him to have digested by now and be back out and about. Any ideas?

my royals always hide away for a couple of days when they have fed..

unless yours has gone into shed i would not worry, its a royal thing to not come out..lol..for the most part they are quite shy..

Thanks for the input guys. I am not sure if he has gone into shed coz I have not seen him to tell. I have had him for three weeks or so and he has not shed with me. He is three months old so I am not sure when to expect a shed. Any ideas on that one?

You shouldnt have to wait long. They often become inactive before they show any visual signs. The earlierst sign is the snake will feel differantly, a bit rough, then it will have a pink belly (not with all royals), then the usual dull body leading to blue eyes.

Cool cool. How long does the whole process take or is it something thay can vary from snake to snake? Quite looking forward to the first shed so I can get to familiarise myself with the process. On average how often do they shed when they are that young?

It probably takes 10-14 days from them first going blue to shedding.

Shedding frequency will depend on growth (feeding) but probably between 1 and 2 monthly.

Thanks BE. HE is getting fed a small mouce every 5 days just now. I was going to try and weigh him to see if he has put on any weight but I cant get him when he is out so I guess it will just have to wait. I will be glad to see him shed so I know that things are going ok.

Yeah i tried that but he was hissing at me big time. Just thought it best to leave him alone rather than disturb him. I will maybe get him out tonight.

I have just gone in and got him out. No hissing this time. I think he is looking a bit dull so thinking that it is maybe time for a shed. I weighed him as well and he has put on 11g since last week.
