And if i do, what can i do about it?
This is a shop complaint (shock horror) but in order to keep it as unbiased as possible i shall stick to the bare facts as i know them.
this relates to the shop i got "It" from on monday.
When i bought "It" it was co habiting with a sibling, who was a non feeder and the manager said he was not going to sell it until he was happy with it. (it'll confuse us all if i keep saying IT so i will call this non feeder Bob lol)
When i was speaking to him he made it apparent that he was feeding them on mouse pinks until last saturday when he tried them with mouse fluffs, which IT ate, but Bob did not. I do not know how long Bob has not eaten for.
I did mention trying rats, but he said rats are too big, I also mentioned trying multis but he did not answer me. At this time i did not say anything else about ideas to get Bob feeding as i was preoccupied with It and figured he knows what he is doing. so left it.
Today (friday) i went back in the shop to see how Bob was doing.
I knew it unlikely that he had tried to feed Bob as he was only last tried on saturday.
these are my main concerns coming up here:
1: Bob was still in the same tank as monday (when It was there.) this tank is only APPROX (i did not measure so dont take this as gospel) slightly smaller than a 2ft viv. the heating as i recall is a spotlight bulb, unguarded (please note, the bulb could have just been for display purposes and there may have been some unseen for of heating there i.e mat etc, but either way i THINK the bulb would have thrown off some heat, and it was definately not guarded not that Bob could have reached it anyway, but his new roomate could have.....) the substrate was something like orchid bark or similar.
there was a water bowl (clean, filled up etc, no probs there.) and NO hides or plantlife or ANYTHING else (i didnt see any thermostats or thermometers, but obviously that does not mean the were not there)...apart from Bobs new roomate..... who was a boa (i am sorry, it is probably a key point but i cant remember the type of boa) but this boa was the same size (approx once again) as Ra.
At this point i was concerned so i thought about it for a moment and decided to ask the manager how Bob was doing, and maybe chat to him about ideas to get him eating again (i.e...i think he is too damn stressed! not that i said that, but my plan was to try and be polite and helpful without coming across as a "know it all busy body pain in the a**e")
Maybe i worded it all wrong but oh well.
What i said was: "Hi! how are you?, I bought the royal on monday..? How's the other little one doing, has he eaten yet?"
to which the manager said that no, they hadn't tried him so soon. i said fair enough, then i asked him if he had any idea why he wasn't eating, i suggested that he may be stressed, especially now he has the boa in with him.
At which point the manager rolled his eyes, let out a puff of air, and appeared quite irate as he told me repeatedly that he knows what he is doing, and that they are not fed in together that he separates them out back to feed them, and the boa only went in today.
i apologised profusely but he ignored me, and wouldn't even look at me when i bought the latest practical reptile mag, i didn't even get a thank you or good bye.
As far as i know the reptiles could all be kept "out back" in "ideal setups" overnight/at weekends etc, though i feel that is relatively unlikely.
IMO i dont understand why the royal is not now "out back" until it is healthier (it is VERY skinny and has a lot of saggy skin) and less stressed and feeding again, as he told me he would not be selling bob until he is feeding.
there's probably more i could add, but have quite possibly already made this more biased than i should have.
At the end of the day, the shop is a GOOD one, the rest of the animals/set ups etc are good and all the other animals are in good(for a shop) set ups (apart from the lack of bulb guards, i saw a lizard litterally hugging it's heat bulb while in there), and seem healthy, and before this, the staff have always been polite and approachable, but he made me feel like i did not count and that i clearly knew nothing. I am the first to admit i am in NO WAY an expert, but i feel i have enough experience and knowledge to share ideas, like on this forum, and he quite simply did not want to know.
I think that Bob will not eat ever again if he/she is kept like this and bob will die. thus the shop loses £50.
I'm quite cross, and don't really know what to do about it all. Asking to speak to someone senior is pointless, as he IS the senior.
so...
1) Am i right to be cross, or should i let it go...
2) IF i am right...what can i do apart from b******g about it on forums, i cant even buy it as he wont sell it while it's not feeding... :(

not to mention all my unanswered questions now i feel i cant ask them....like, what sort of quarantine do they have in place? how often do they put royals in with boas....do they have mite issues, or RI issues, or...that other one that i cant remember now, something like IBD...?
sorry for my rant.

well the whole bit about how he dealt with me is merely a matter of perspective i suppose, but from my point of view i agree with you.

I'd be angry if he'd been rude to me too - but as for BoB there's not much you can do.

I think it is really stupid to keep a boa and a royal together - so I don't think he really does know what he's doing.

I know how you feel Cat. i guess as well that fact that you have bought animals from this shop as well makes it harder for you. I think as every one has said not alot you can do. You to choices would be to forget about it( well you know, not worry about it) or keep annoying them about it and if you know any one else near buy get them to go in and annoy him about it to. In these times no shop can afford a bad reputation. So he will have to take action sooner rather than later.
