Right, i'm off to pick up 2 breeding weight royals tomorrow. Female at 1.8kgs and male at 1.3kgs.
I've chatted to the bloke and he said they have already lost their appetite. He has housed them together for the last couple of weeks. Does this mean they are getting ready to mate already? These snakes bred last year together.
I was under the impression you should keep the snakes separate during winter and then introduce in the early spring months. Is this wrong?
I'm not questioning what the fella is doing with the snakes as he's been breeding for a while, including morphs so must know what he's doing. Just thought it was a bit early for everything to be kicking off...
I'm planning on splitting them up as soon as I get home with them as i'll have 2 vivs, is this a bad idea as by the sounds of it they might be getting ready to mate already, in which case i don't want to mess them around.
Any advice is welcome.
Also, i'm aware of the quarantine period and that i should keep them away from Gary for a few months, does this include not putting viv's next to eachother as Gary's RUB will be housed next to the new arrivals vivs.
And, do royals of that age/size require a 7 day settling in period?? |

If i was you i would get them home weigh them and see what they do weigh what he says just to double check seperate them and keep an eye on them and then offer food i would make sure that they are eating and are healthy before breeding.
Thats just me though and i have never bred yet (next year for me)
But i would want to see them eating
Cheers Danny
So he got back to you on those royals then??? |

Yeah he did, i'm off to pick them up tomorrow
I will weigh them on the fishing scales when I get them home before putting them into the vivs. I defo thinking splitting them up is the best option.
He has had them feeding on rats every 7 days but just recently gone off their food. Perhaps its best if I keep them seperate and pretend i'm not breeding them for a month or 2, just don't want to miss this season! I owe you a hatchling afterall |

Wow glad to hear your getting them . just knew putting that ad up would in here would work out good for some one. Would love to have lived in England I would have beat you to them. As regarding separating them. He may have been going for this season, so just double check with him exactly at what stage in the breeding process he is at with them.
good luck with them and happy breeding. |

Yeah, picked them up on Saturday. They are quality snakes, very inquisitive, good looking and very friendly.
The bloke did say if i seperate them over the winter and re-introduce early Spring I should have luck with them breeding, does that sound right? |
