It was Rex's first feed this evening, so naturally being new to this I was a little nervous.

I defrosted the fuzzy and made it a good temperature for him and sat it on a large piece of kitchen roll (so as not to get substrate stuck to it) in his Viv. I was so pleased when he came out of his hide straight away to have a look. Although, he did give me a look a couple of times as if to say "And what am I supposed to do with this!?!", as if I was missing the silver cutlery and candles!

I wasn't sure if he was going to get bored with it, so I gave it a little wiggle and then he went for it, not a strike as such, more of a yawn that happened to catch a dead mouse! But he swallowed it down nicely, and he even opened his mouth to prove to me he'd eaten it all when he'd finished!

Who's a clever little boy!?!

Congratulations. It is always good to get your first feed out the way. Hopefully many more to come.

Do you really think he could cope with something bigger? He's only a little chap, he was about 120g when I first bought him about a week ago?! And that was having just been fed, and he has yet to pass that through!

(I do hope I'm remembering correctly there!)

Even hatchling Royals don't need fuzzy mice. They can go straight onto small mice or even small rat pups.
