The snake we would all have if we were brave enough or had the space, or over-rated?

Who owns them, any pics?

They dont really appeal to me, though I handled a super dwarf not so long ago and that was a very nice snake.

Same here, and other keepers I've spoken to have talked about their intelligence. I'd rather a Retic than a Burm, but I don't think I'd ever really have either.

yea the retics are alot more switched on. their just as interested in you as you are in them. Kinda works in their favor as you get a hell of a lot less feeding response bites (unlike burms haha). but p**s off a retic once and it WILL remember. their one of the only snakes that can differentiate between individuals! the thing with space is you can get a dwarf or super dwarf retic, get all the character and intelligence of a retic, but without the huge size. super dwarf retics, if from the right parents, can only hit 6-7ft which is no bigger than your average rat snake, boa, jungle carpet etc. the jamps get bigger, some topping out at about 16ft, but again they are a slender snake unlike the burm so arent as difficult to deal with.

its only the mainland retics that tend to be monsters!!!!

I haven't had much to do with retics, but I went to the Berkshire College of Agriculture for a bit and they had a couple of retics there... a normal and an albino. Seriously formidable snakes, very beautiful and as has been said before they appear to be very switched on. You could pretty much call them over to the front of the enclosure and they'd move up the wire to have their bellies scratched! Would love to see some photos.
I'd personally not want to keep them due to their size (not even the dwarfs... royals are big enough for me). I wouldn't even want a dog that I couldn't restrain physically if it were necessary (good job I only have whippets lol) so a potential man-eating snake is out for me I'm afraid. Not opposed to others keeping them though as long as they are sensible and know what they're doing.

I love retics they're awesome! They are however one of the snakes where at the moment I would rather admire someone else's than have one myself. Who knows though, maybe one day when Feather's fully grown and I've got some experience with a largish constrictor.

the size or retics greatly vary tho. some get to 20ft+ where as others max out at around 14-16ft. its all in the parents....hahaha

why does the size bother people? fear of an out of control snake? or just no room?
