I was a bit worried about my Royal not eating, and then came home a couple of days ago to fine her eyes had clouded.
And I was so relieved, because I've read that during shedding they can go off their food.
But I put a Rat Pup in anyway, and when I came home from work that day, it has disappeared.
So I was very happy she'd eaten, even though she was due her shed.

And I know not to handle them when they're shedding, so I didnt get her out last night.
But when I put my hand up to the viv, just to say hello, she struck at me :(
I'm just wondering if this is normal? As I know their clouded eyes can restrict their vision?

Please someone just put my mind at ease, I'm new to all this.
Thankyou :) Charlotte x

Yes, quite normal. You're right, they can be virtually blind.

Thanks, I know from keeping snakes before that their vision can get really bad during shed, but I was still a bit worried, as I've never had a Royal before.

As long as she doesn't hate me haha.

Thankyou :) Charlotte x

just the secretion of fluids to aid the shed has to cover the eyes aswell (to help that bit lift), think how guarded you would feel semi blind and seeing a hand 30ft high coming towards you, lol

My new female was in shed when I got her and she was a nightmare. My wee male is fine but she was proper huffy. She hissed at me everytime I had my hand in the viv. I would not worry unless she is doing it after she ha shed. Thankfully mine has shed and is back to normal.

You make a good point Karl, haha.
I will get the shed aid, when she actually starts losing skin.
Where would you recommend to get it from? And good sites?

And thanks Russm, glad someone else went through the same thing, always stops you worrying as much doesn't it :)

Shed-Aid might be jumping the gun a little, although it's good if you have an actual problem
just try adding a damp hide with some sphagnum moss in for now

Yes I've actually just come home to a viv full of skin, haha.
So I think she's getting on alright :)

I'm going to give her a check over later (don't want to disturb her yet), what kinda things should I look for? I know to check for eye caps...

Thanks, Charlotte x

I'd check that she's shed the tip of her tail too.
