Ozzie is onto his second feed since coming to me. The first time my friend fed him because i was scared. It took about 20 mins to tempt him to eat.... so i assumed last night would be the same
How wrong i was! He struck the minute i put the rat in, and i got a massive fright and dropped the rat. We were trying to figure out how to get the rat back when Oz decided he wanted to eat it anyway. He lifted it and slinked back to his hide where he played with it for a while before eating it.
Just shows i suppose you need to be prepared for anything. |

You do get a bit of a fright when they do that. Glad he is looking like he will feed fine now. Hope this fine form continues. |

Thanks Russ, i think he was really hungry, he had been on the prowl for a few days, very active indeed.
I will be better prepared next time |

I guess it's like watching a toaster (weird comparison, I know!), you know it's going to pop-up but it makes you jump anyway!
When feeding do you use anything to hold the rat with, such as forceps?

My female is reluctant to feed unless she is in her hide so you just have to dangle the rat at the entrance a be prepared for her to come and get it. Makes it worse coz you cant see her coming. |

The first time Princess struck I jumped and nearly dropped the rat, I had no idea she'd be that fast! |

Kimitree, that is a very good comparison . I was using tongs, would not put my fingers near him, im waaaay too scared.
The thing is, his head was on view so i knew where he would fly from, but i just didn't expect him to strike right away. When he did he was facing me which didn't help my fright
LOL im glad im not the only one who jumps though |

great news on the feeding, one of my corns did that last night, didnt know where she was hiding and had her mouse dangling in the viv and she struck from behind one of the plants...made me jump ..
but its a great feeling when they feed...especially royals..
congrats on getting your first feed done with him , |

Great news with the feed - I have a royal that strikes within seconds, then drops it after coiling it. When I go in with the tongs to try and retrive it he nearly jumps out of the viv and strikes my hand!!!! I have to push him back with the tongs each time and retrive the rat, which he alwways grabs the 2nd time before I can even get it out. Lol - they are so funny. |

Boo is a little lazy to strike. She moves up to it, sniffs it a few times, nudges it with her nose, then she gives me a look that says "is that it??" before making a little quick flick towards it then just picks it up and eats it. She is that lazy she dont even bother to constrict it. I tried keeping it from her distance to try and encourage her to strike for it, but no she decides to lift herself up to reach it then just takes it from my hand. yea i dont use feeding tongs, hehe used to but got used to the quick movements, yea been bit a few times, but cause i wash hands before and after handling she dont like the taste too much and quickly lets go |
