I found Ozzie coiled around his strip bulb yesterday. I turned the bulb off and he uncoiled himself, but could it potentially burn him? I dont have a heat bulb (use a mat instead) i know they need to be covered though, because of burns, but does the same go for strip bulbs, even though they dont reach great temps? Thanks in advance.
what kind of strip bulb is it. are you taking about a fluorescent tube? Although the tubes themselves to not reach great temperature, the small metal caps at the end can. My concern with them is that they are very easily broken and it wouldn't take much pressure for even a young python to break one. there is also a flicker from fluorescent tubes which many specialists belief cause unnecessary stress. If you are only using it for light so you can see. you could maybe think of adding just a small standard light fitting with a very low voltage lamp. you could then put a guard round this and all your worries would be gone.
