OMG!! That's horrific, absolutely horrible, I actually feel sick!
In a way you hope it wasn't mite-things that did it, they came after (like someone said on the other forum), but who knows! That's an image which will stick with me for a long time! |

i've not read any of the thread but they look like ticks to me.......... and could quite possibly have killed the snake as they feed off it's blood and would make it very anaemic in a very short space of time...which could quickly lead to death
could have come in with substrate or decor?
blessed be |

had chance to have a read through the thread now........ general concensus is ticks although other possibilities have been mentioned......... i personally still think it's a tick infestation, and that it's likely to have caused the death of the snake
whatever, it's still shocking and an awful thing to have to deal with |

I thought it was ticks aswell, but I cant see how they could all go unnoticed. |

they start off really small.......... and often only get noticed after they've filled up with blood from their host
the snake in question is pretty small but the pics on the thread are very good... which kinda puts them into proportion |

I never realised ticks could be so deadly. But I don't believe she wouldn't have had time to save that snake, I'm sure I would have noticed. |

whatever it was that killed her snake it was awful and if they were tiny then maybe they could go unnoticed.
some ticks as Ali says are like other blood suckers, they dont get to big until they have filled up with blood then they can look huge.. |

with that level of infestation death for the host could be quite quick although i can't put a more precise timescale on it, i suppose it's some small consolation that it wasn't suffering for months on end |
